Contents
Ascorbic acid 500 mg (equiv to Na ascorbate 562.43 mg), Zn 10 mg (equiv to Zn gluconate 70 mg), cholecalciferol 1,000 IU
Indications/Uses
Prevention & treatment of vit C, Zn & vit D3 deficiencies as well as maintenance & support of immune system function & promotion of healthy skin.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ hyperoxaluria or G6PD deficiency; on Na restricted diet. Vit C: Pregnancy. Zn: Cu deficiency.
Adverse Reactions
Vit C: Stomach upset & diarrhea (>2,000 mg/day); formation of oxalate stones in kidneys (high doses); disturbed water & electrolyte balance, increased hemolysis, increased Ca in kidneys & suppression of cobalamin activity. Zn: GI effects eg, nausea & vomiting. Vit D3: Allergic reactions eg, rash or itching, swelling of the face, throat & tongue, severe dizziness, trouble breathing, changes in heart rhythm including irregular or racing heart beat.
Drug Interactions
Vit C: Increased absorption of Fe. Increased urinary excretion w/ aspirin. Decreased excretion of aspirin. Prolonged presence of paracetamol in the blood. Not compatible in soln w/ aminophylline, bleomycin, erythromycin, lactobionate, nafcillin, Na nitrofurantoin, conjugated estrogens, Na bicarbonate, sulfafurazole, diethanolamine, chloramphenicol Na succinate, chlorothiazide Na & hydrocortisone Na succinate. Interfere w/ blood-thinning treatments. Zn: Interactions w/ cephalosporins; β-lactam antibiotics; tetracyclines; antiretroviral drugs like atazanavir, ritonavir; antineoplastic agents like cisplatin; antidiabetic drugs like glimepiride, glyburide, pioglitazone, insulin; & K-sparing diuretics like amiloride. Vit D3: Avoid taking w/ paricalcitol, calcipotriene, doxercalciferol, mineral oil. May decrease or prevent absorption w/ orlistat, or bile acid sequestrants like colesevelam, colestipol, cholestyramine. Digoxin; Al hydroxide; water pills like chlorthalidone, hydrochlorothiazide, & chlorothiazide; Mg hydroxide & Mg citrate; & fosphenytoin.
